Lock Down

>> Friday, October 15, 2010

Noah-2 years 299

I took this photo over near my parents house at an old run-down one room barn. I immediately knew what feel I was going for and was excited to get home and edit it. The warmth provided by the direct sunlight made for some pretty intense shadows, which I tried to embrace rather than hide from. :-) I was pretty pleased with the way it turned out…topped it off with 3 Kim Klaussen Textures and voila! Enjoy!

I don’t really have anything to post today…

Nothing that I have shot recently fits with any of today’s photo challenge themes.

So…instead, I’m just going to leave you with one of my favorite photos from recently.

Enjoy.

The Pearl

>> Friday, September 10, 2010

I took this photo originally for my photography class with Faith. I was so happy with the way that it turned out that I wanted to share it for Macro Today. I thought very seriously about cropping the photo down, but I felt like it took away from vast simplicity of the pearl on the great big table. Me, being all philosophical and what-not, felt it represented us as individuals. We are all small in the grand scheme of things…there is someone much bigger in control. That’s what this photo represents to me. The simple beauty within us that is held in the hands of someone mightier.

Hate to Love it…

>> Friday, September 3, 2010

I have a sweet tooth. Always have.

I try and try and TRY to not cave into the temptations. But I do.

Oreo’s are my favorite. I love, love, love a whole bag small plate of Oreo's with a class of milk. But I hate the way that my pants fit after I’m done snacking. I hate what the scale screams at me when I over-indulge.

I can’t help it…I hate to love them, but I do.

August 040

August 040

To be completely honest, I can’t decide if maybe I don’t like the original SOOC better. The hazy effect is my favorite, and I’m still baffled that the wrong White Balance and Exposure setting accomplished that on a cloudy day. I could probably NEVER get that shot to look that way naturally again. I do love the texture of the edit. You know me. Texture junkie. Head on over to Monica’s for more awesome Before and After editing.  :)

I’m also linking this photo up with You Captures theme this week: Outside.

I shot a lot this weekend gearing up for the Sunday Scavenger Hunt. There were several photos that I was particularly excited about, but the point of this fun blog hop is to link up your sweetest shot…the shot than stands out to you above all others. This one was no competition.

Don’t know how I’ve done it. But I have successfully managed to get three photo challenges for this week done and scheduled. It’s currently a Sunday afternoon and I’m about to hit submit on this challenge for Thursday. I love productivity.  :) Anywho. As you’re reading this it is in fact Thursday which means it’s “Before and After” time with Monica! I had a hard time picking out just one photo this week that I wanted to use, but hopefully this is one you guys will love. I am a vintage/texture junkie and this photo was so much fun to play around with. I think I did 4 or 5 different edits of different styles before I ever decided which one I loved the best.

Vintage 029

Vintage 029

I keep meaning to write down what all I do on these, but I never remember. I lightened it up, used the “Vintage” action from Pioneer Woman, then used her “Seventies” action on top of it. I played around with the contrast and the brightness, upped the black and red tones, adjusted the saturation, and then added two layers.  :) This photo will be hanging in my kitchen once we get moved. Hope you all have a blessed Thursday and don’t forget to head over to Monica’s for more Before and After editing!

Tuesday’s Two

>> Monday, August 9, 2010

It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for a few fun photo challenges [as opposed to every other day, right?!]

4561666212_17394624b6_o

The theme at Trendy Treehouse this week is “Vacation.” I started to post a beach picture or something, but then I realized that there are probably going to be 100 other beachy photos to go along with this theme with summer wrapping up and whatnot. So instead I thought I would post one of my favorite photos from our trip to Atlanta for the 4th of July. This was really the only big vacation that we took with hubby being gone and all.  We went to a Braves Game while we were in Atlanta and this is the huge Hank Aaron statue that sits outside of Turner Field.

And for “Sweet Shot Tuesdays” with Darcy, I’m linking up one of the totally random, but really fun vintage photos I took at my parents house the other night. You’ll be seeing several more where this came from this week as I’ve used some others in different challenges. Hope you like! I know it’s one of my favorites.

Shapely

sundaycreative
This week I have found a fun new photo challenge to enter. It’s hosted by Madeline Bea Photography and it’s called The Sunday Creative. I’ve seen this cute little logo all over the photoblogosphere, and finally got around to checking things out for myself. Her themes and categories are fun and unique, pushing us to explore new ideas for our photographs. This weeks challenge is Shapely. I had so much fun with this one. I shot several different things, but as far as the ‘shapes’ go, this image was my absolute favorite.

Playtime 126
This is actually the bottom piece of my Mother-in-laws Wind Chime. I love that the circle was cracked and the paint was pealing. And I know that technically there is a lot of negative space in this photo, but I couldn’t resist the sun-flare and the unique composition. What can I say? I’m an artist…technically correct or not. Head on over to the challenge and check out all of the other wonderfully creative and unique entries!

You Capture- “Play”

>> Thursday, July 29, 2010

 youcapture-4-1

I was at a loss for which photo to use for this weeks challenge. The theme is “play” and we do plenty of that around here. I had 3 photos that I liked, but when it came down to creativity and the shot that stood out the most, there was only one that fit the bill. I grabbed the camera the other evening with this weeks theme in mind and took Little Man outside for a photoshoot so I would have pictures to use for the blog hops  play time. Out of all of them, this was my favorite. I love everything about it. I love the composition. I love the shadows. I love the angle of the sunlight hitting it. [Maybe I’m just partial…] What do you think??

Jar of Change

>> Thursday, July 22, 2010

4439779044_27e3214dc0_o

First things first, before I get to the blog hop: MY WEBSITE IS UP AND RUNNING! Can you tell that I am excited? Just a little? ;) I spent a lot of long hours working on this little baby, so I would love for you to mosey on over and take a quick peak and let me know what you think. You can find it here or by clicking the “website” button on the menu bar.

I took this the other day, inside, with horrible lighting, while Little Man was helping mommy “count change” and put it in a jar. We’re saving pennies and all of our loose change to put toward our trip to California in October. I had the White Balance on my camera set for Tungsten Light, but it didn’t really help the picture out that much. I hate indoor lighting. Bleh.  Here is the before photo:

Noah 008

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. Nothing in the world about this photo that I thought could be salvaged. The only reason I didn’t delete it immediately is because I liked how clear the jar looked and wondering if maybe, just maybe, I could figure out something to do to it so that I didn’t have to totally get rid of it. I just downloaded the Trial Version of CS5 and hoped that this little beast could help me out. After much tweaking and playing around [even experimenting with textures!!] here is what I came up with:

Noah 008wm

I had to crop out Little Man’s blurry hand, adjusted the curves, applied a few different color filters and added a free texture that I found somewhere off of Google. I’m actually very proud of this one. I love the vintage look, and I’m considering framing it and hanging it up one day when we get moved. It looks like something that would go in a kitchen or something. And the Mason Jar has given me TONS of ideas for more photos.  :) Head on over to Monica’s to see what everyone else has come up with this week!

It’s Thursday! Which means that it’s time to show off your favorite edited photos over at Monica’s! There is always so much inspiration from the fantastic photos, and you don’t have to be a seasoned pro or have fancy editing software to play along! My shot this week was taken using my Canon Rebel Xsi and my Nifty Fifty Lens.

Kaufmann 100 Kaufmann 100 I even got a little bit brave with this edit and added some grain to it for the effect. Not sure I’m a big fan, but I’m proud of the edit. Thinking of framing it when we get moved. Here are a few other shots that I took while I was at this location. I’m not going to include the ‘before’ shots with these since they aren’t part of the blog hop.

I’m all about post-production

>> Saturday, March 13, 2010

I’m learning very, very quickly that i am going to be one of those ‘post-production’ photographers. I truly believe that you can capture a great photo just using your camera. But I also believe that truly phenomenal photos are created during post-production. Right now, I’m only using Paint.net and I am amazed at what I can do using only this free software. I can not wait to see what kind of doors and possibilities open up when I finally purchase some good software. I guess I just never really realized what a BIG difference post-production made.
