Fix it Friday #52

Fix-it_lg

Fix it Friday #52 this week was a little bit difficult for me. I thought the photo [prior to editing] was already fantastic! The composition was great, the background was gorgeous and the model was as cute as she could be. But I played around with a few different presets in my Lightroom, tweaked a few things here and there, and finally got to something that was [In my opinion] better than the original.

I cropped it in a lot, because I wanted to get close enough to really see her face. Adjusted the contrast, the brightness and upped the black. I also adjusted the Magenta slide to bring out the pink in her dress. Then I added some post-crop Vingnetting. And Voila.

It’s Thursday.

Which means that it’s time for one of my all time favorite photography memes. It’s the Before & After Blog Hop with Monica over at “Pixel Perfect.” We all get together to link up our shots that we have edited, and sometimes there are even prizes. But aside from all that, there are some amazingly talented photographers that play along and I am having so much fun learning from their techniques and tricks. Here is my shot for today.

018 I thought this was a super cute shot of Little Man. We were at Dairy Queen and he was eating his own ice cream cone. It was cloudy out, which explains the exposure. I new this shot could be good, so here ya go:

018 I shot this with my Canon Rebel Xsi, using my 50 mm f/1.8 lens. I’m pretty sure this was probably shot at f/2.5 or f/2.8. That’s usually where I keep it when shooting just one person. I edited this using Lightroom.

a little bit of an update

>> Tuesday, April 27, 2010

I haven’t written much lately, so I thought I would use what little bit of spare time I’ve got on my hands right now to update everyone on what's been going on. The husband left on April 17 for California, I did a photo shoot that afternoon, and have since booked 4 or 5 sessions. I’m meeting with a client Thursday Evening to look over some ideas she has and discuss some shot locations. I have a possible shoot this weekend for a friend of ours who wants to have some photos made of her boys for a Father’s Day present. I’ve got a possible Maternity/Newborn package shoot in May/June and July that I’m really excited about. I have a definite Maternity Shoot in July and a Newborn shoot in August right before we move again. And I have two couples shoots and a sisters shoot in June [same family, same day.] Things are picking up, and I’m really grateful.

I’m hoping to launch my website and get my business cards ordered the first of the month. I’ve been playing around with some designs but haven’t settled on one particular one that I like yet. The husband is buying me a new computer, most likely for my birthday and some editing software. I think I’m going to purchase Lightroom first a) cause it’s a wee bit cheaper and b) because that’s what I’ve been using for the past several weeks and I absolutely l love it. I am going to splurge on Photoshop CS5 before the summer is over. Glad I hadn’t purchased CS4 yet since the one is being released in May. The working with the wedding photographer may have fallen through. I’m not entirely sure yet, but it’s possible. I’ve had so many inquiries about photo sessions, most of which are going to be on weekends, that I don’t know if I am going to be able to. Between my scheduled photoshoots, trips to California to visit the husband [our first one is most likely going to be in June], and then house hunting [which will start in either June or July-depending on when hubby’s orders get cut.] That really doesn’t leave me a lot of time for much else. And he doesn’t do a lot of shoots during the week.

Which if I worked with him during the week, I would have to have someone to keep little man. Not that it’s a big deal because my parents live a few minutes from where we are, but it would involve a lot of driving. I know that it would be a great benefit to work with him because his work is absolutely phenomenal. But I learn by doing which means that I’m going to improve the more that I shoot. And shooting still life objects will only improve my abilities so much. I know that down the road I want to get into photographing weddings. And when the time is right for that, the good Lord will present that opportunity to me. Right now, I’m happy shooting portraits.

On that note, here are a few shots that I’ve been meaning to post and haven’t yet. Some are from a shoot we did at the Covered Bridge before Hubby left. Some are from other random days since he’s been gone. Enjoy!

I_Heart_Faces_Photography_125

I decided to join in on the “I Heart Faces” weekly photo challenge this week. The theme is “smiles” and I have lots and lots of photos laying around with Little Man smiling. When I started looking there were only a few that I thought were good enough to enter, one of them being from our trip out with my parents the other night.

LogCabin 012-2

I chose this one because of the bright colors and the great backdrop. I loved Little Mans cheesy grin, and was so happy to have clicked this one at just the right moment.  Head over to iheartfaces to see other challenge entries!

maddy

>> Sunday, April 18, 2010

Yesterday after I dropped Hubby off at the airport, I got the chance to finally meet one of my very best bloggy friends Mandi, her husband and their beautiful little girl Maddy. We went to lunch [just us girls] and then afterward I got the chance to shoot some pictures of Maddy at the park. She got a little frustrated with us when we wouldn’t let her jump into the pond, but she had a good time playing with {and eating} the flowers in the field. Here’s a preview of her shoot:

I’m still working on some of the edits, but I’m hoping [since I have absolutely nothing else to do right now…and because I’m in love with how these photos turned out] to have them finished by Tuesday or Wednesday. I’m updating my Facebook Fanpage CONSTANTLY these days, so if you want to see more photos from Maddy’s shoot, you can pay me a visit. And don’t hesitate to become a fan while you are there.  :)

Better late than never

I’ve been insanely busy running around like a nut case this week and getting the husband ready to go to California on Saturday. That’s why this post is coming so late. But, better late than never. I’m probably a little bit too late for anyone to cast a vote my direction, but oh well. I still want to play.  :)

Covered Bridge 151-2

I have several more that I’ve done in the past week or so I just haven’t gotten around to posting. We did a shoot at a Covered Bridge and I got several GREAT photos of Little Man and my Husband. I’ll try to post those on Sunday. My day is booked tomorrow and I have to take Hubby to the Airport on Saturday. Then Saturday afternoon I have a photo shoot and lunch date with my lovely friend Mandi and her precious little girl. Then after that I’m having coffee with one of my college roommates. I have to keep myself busy or else I’ll go nuts the first several days hubby is away.

Oh. I also had a meeting with the local professional photographer that I will be working with this summer.  I won’t go into much detail right now, but it went excellent and I’m really looking forward to shadowing with him this summer. He’s an AMAZING Wedding Photographer and I know that I’m going to learn more than I initially imagined. And I can’t wait. You can view his work, if you are interested, HERE. His site is under construction right now, but you can get a general idea of how awesome he is.

It’s Thursday. Which means that I’ll be linking up with Monica over at “Pixel Perfect” for another before and after blog hop. If you’re new to this, it’s really simple. Choose a photo that you know needs work, show it straight out of camera and then show your edit. Some like to give step by step instructions on exactly how they edited the picture, but if you’re like me, you’ll never remember. I tend to just play around with everything until I get the look I was wanting. I’m using Lightroom 3 for my edits today.  :)

Don’t forget to head over to Monica’s and look at the other edits! There are always, always some fantastic photos!

easter photo shoot

>> Monday, April 5, 2010

We spent Easter Sunday at my Husband’s Grandmothers house. She has this beautiful old shed in her front yard that presented the perfect opportunity for a photo shoot. My mother-in-law had already mentioned wanting to get some good photos of Hubby’s younger brother by himself when he was dressed up, and I knew this would be the ideal place to take them.
